CARP FUND

C
hinese American Resources & Programs

The CARP FUND is in the process of being established. It will be an annual fundraising dinner to benefit Chinese and Chinese American resources and programs, primarily at Stony Brook University (SBU), but will also include non-profits in the local LI community.

Funds would be kept in the Stony Brook Foundation. Using SBF saves having to become a 501(c)3, allows donations to be tax deductible, and increases SBF's holdings which benefits SBU.

Proceeds from dinner will go into the fund in 3 categories - 20% overhead and endowment (allows certain projects to become self-sustaining, including the dinner itself), 50% academics (any academic deparment, International Student Services, etc.), and 30% programs (primarily in the Charles B. Wang Asian American Center at SBU). The reason for specifically dividing the fund in advance is to create at least one area among the divisions where almost everyone will have some interest and therefore be willing to donate.
